Parlor intensively researched the original design and craftsmanship of this stately 1940 home to develop a design concept that masterfully marries old world craft with bold, contemporary design and inspired functionality. The white walls and dark wood floors serve as the perfect canvas for bespoke custom millwork and the homeowners’ extensive art collection, with rare Chinese antiquities showcased in custom-shaped built-ins.
High-drama details include the ample chef kitchen’s soaring 14-foot exposed-beam ceiling, a large handcrafted bronze chandelier by Miami artist Michele Oka Doner above the dining room table, and the custom-designed iron interior stairway railing made using a Colombian artisanal hand hammering technique. Throughout the home, rich, layered materiality reigns supreme, as seen in the Carrara marble, burnished brass, and black oak in the kitchen; in the primary bathroom’s repurposed antique vanities, handmade geometric terracotta floor tiles, and charming bay window; and in the lush landscaping canopying the outdoor space, an oasis accented with the soft detailing of a limestone terrace and pool and verdant, layered native Florida plantings.
